CEO of Acclaim Health Announces Retirement

Angela Brewer, Acclaim Health’s transformational CEO, has announced she is retiring in June 2024 after over 30 years with the organization.

“Under Angela’s incredible leadership, over half a million patients, club members, clients, and their families have experienced the extraordinary home and community care that Acclaim Health provides,” says Cindy Heinz, Board Chair. “Her unique experience as a visiting nurse, along with her incredible organizational leadership skills, have allowed Acclaim Health to create care that truly puts patients and clients first”.

Angela began her career with the organization as a visiting nurse in 1992, eventually completing her MBA. She gradually took on a variety of leadership roles until she became the Executive Director in 2004. Since that time, she has grown the organization’s annual operating budget from $8.9M to $34.7M and introduced many new, innovative services to improve client care.

“Being CEO of Acclaim Health has truly been one of the great honours of my life,” says Angela. “And although I am leaving this exceptional organization, Acclaim Health and its people will forever hold a special place in my heart.”

A passionate advocate for home and community care, she has played a leadership role in shaping healthcare system transformation – both locally, within the newly forming Ontario Health Teams, and provincially, in her role as Board Chair of Home Care Ontario. She continues to tirelessly champion increased home care funding, wage parity for home and community staff members, and for better system integration.

Most recently, Angela led the construction of Patty’s Place, Acclaim Health’s flagship dementia care centre in Oakville, which raised the bar for extraordinary dementia care in Ontario.

Angela was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award for service to her community in 2022.

“We can’t thank her enough,” says Cindy Heinz. “We owe her a debt of gratitude for the level of excellent care she has created in our community. We congratulate her on her well-earned retirement.”

The Board of Directors has retained LHH Knightsbridge to conduct the search for a new CEO. Angela will remain in her role until the end of June when the new CEO will take the reins.
